Claro, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies recently teamed up to demonstrate the potential of 5G Broadcast/Multicast technology at Open Rio 2023. The event is dedicated to creating a more dynamic digital ecosystem in Brazil through open innovation and collaboration. The three companies have worked together to showcase the capabilities of this new technology by providing visitors with an advanced mobile experience through a live signal transmitted over-the-air. To do so, Rohde & Schwarz’s 3GPP compliant solution was used in the demonstration. This included their R&S TLU9 transmitter as well as their BSCC2.0 which is able to operate both in Receive-Only Mode (ROM) without requiring a SIM card, as well as Free-To-Air (FTA) with high power. By harnessing this cutting edge technology, new applications can now be enabled by broadcast/multicast over 5G. These could include consumer applications for entertainment or gaming purposes as well as emergency services that can use it securely deliver public messages during disasters or emergencies.
5G Broadcast/Multicast has been heralded by industry analysts as the next big leap forward in mobile technology and its potential applications are boundless. It promises to revolutionize our world by giving consumers access to more data faster than ever before while also allowing businesses to create innovative new services with it. The demonstration provided at Open Rio 2023 gave us just a small glimpse of what we can expect from this technology when it is widely available across Brazil and around the globe; proving that we are on the cusp of exciting times ahead! This collaboration between Claro, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies is just one example of how the three entities are working together to bring 5G technology to their customers. It was an honor for all involved to be part of this groundbreaking demonstration and we look forward to furthering our efforts in the coming months and years as 5G broadcast continues to gain momentum. With the potential of this new technology, we can expect to see more innovative applications and services become available in the near future, helping to usher in a new era of digital experiences for all. Claro, Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies have been working together on other projects as well. They are currently collaborating to launch a unique 5G testing platform for Brazilian customers that will allow for rapid and transparent testing of any device powered by Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM.
This platform is expected to go live in 2021, further reinforcing the commitment of all three entities towards making 5G technology accessible to all. With such an impressive collaboration between three leading companies, it is clear that 5G Broadcast/Multicast technology will soon become the norm in Brazil and across the globe. As we continue to explore its potential, it is our hope that it can help us unlock a new wave of digital experiences for all.
