Globe Expands 5G Network to Visayas and Mindanao

Globe Telecom Inc. is expanding its 5G coverage to more cities in Visayas and Mindanao, with the goal of supporting economic development and providing more digital opportunities for residents by the end of 2022.

The move will see 212 sites in Visayas and 25 in Mindanao connected to Globe’s 5G service. This includes cities such as Davao City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Zamboanga City, Cagayan de Oro City, Boracay and Bacolod City.

Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Network Planning & Engineering commented on the significance of this expansion: “We believe that the expansion of 5G technology in Visayas and Mindanao is essential for driving economic growth, supporting innovation, and providing access to digital services for residents and businesses in these regions.”

He also added that increasing the availability of 5G networks will not only spark new investments but also create a vibrant digital economy in the Philippines. This is part of Globe’s commitment to further build up a connected society through modern technology.

The advantages brought about by 5G are greater internet speeds—up to 100 times faster than 4G—with lesser lag which makes it suitable for activities such as video streaming or gaming.

Globe hopes that this initiative will open up doors to more possibilities while bridging the gap between developed cities and those still working towards their digital transformation journey.
